Solo exhibition in Madrid.
Through the act of walking, the homo viator has looked for the experimentation and the knowledge to respond issues that were impossible to answer from a fixed abode.
Along history we’ve seen how the impulse to travel has possessed different connotations. From the medieval pilgrims, who used their bodies as a pledge through their walking, to the expeditions during the XV or XIX century that attempted to mark of, meet and catalogue every inch, etnia, natural species... of our planet. These examples have led into incredible documents where the accuracy of the descriptions of these places seems to have been distorted. It reveals a sort of opening of the unconsciousness of the walking man. This is how Gaston Bachelard mentions it on The Poetics of Space:“[…] there is a fantasy of the walking man, there is a fantasy of the path”. The exoticism of theunseemly, particular ways of thinking or even some period’s cosmogonies developed that enriched the topoanalysis of these narrations.
On the reverie proposed in this exhibition it peeps out our existence’s caducity. We can say that it’s divided in two sections. On one side, all the moments previous to our transit and the other, all those unknown territories afterwards. For this second section, we started from the narrative stratified from the place Dante creates at the Divine Comedy. The same author and main character of this work, transits through three scenarios where he wanders around after death, the access to each one depending on your life’s performance.
The structure of these three places (Hell, Purgatory and Paradise) denotes a particular cosmogony of the universe, based in a way of depuration and learning through its paths. To that end the space has been approached from a scenographic point of view where geometry plays a fundamental role on the narrative development of the different scenes, helping to direct the attention to the activities taken into action by the multitude of characters that surround him.
